I know that this advice may seem somewhat complicated, but… In certain states misdemeanor or not, you may ‘in-lightem’, sue mommy or daddy for the damages since they are the official guardians of these kids. It means that the guardians weren’t acting as so and end up paying for the damages. You can get restraining orders or punitive damages awarded and recover your losses back 100%. IE: Some dopes up here in Canada figure that because street ‘Hockey’ is a national pastime that it makes it legal everywhere. Wrong! You can play it if you want, but if your neighbor warns you not to play by their property for fear of damages say from ball retrieval with the stick and you ignore that warning and oops it happens. Guess what Mom and Dad, if their kids were minors still have to pay for the damages. It is called a Civil Action’. My flower bed went through a stick retrieval and was cut down and trampled. I sued the parents for the damages citing lack of supervision by an adult. The absentee parent had to pay or I was going to put a lean on their home. Their kids and friends now play in their own driveway and reserve the larger games to the schoolyard. In other words where their is a will there is a way. The police refused to get involved but received a stiff reprimand because of their laxed attitude towards the repeat offender. The pictures that I took of the kid doing the damages by kicking my flower bed to crap really screwed the kids parents in court. And speaking of crap it was ‘hell’ on my ‘Chrons’ when I was in court, which didn’t really sit to well with the ‘Justice’ sitting on the bench. I must have told the judge at least 2 times ‘hold that thought’ and ran from the courtroom looking for a washroom. Michael – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Too bad. Good point — I still think would-be parents should have to take some kind of test before they have children — not to deny anyone the right to BE a parent, just so they understand the responsibly. Perhaps a class in parenting before one graduates from high school or something. . . . Rebecca

I have a good friend who is a police officer and about 6′7" tall too — he looks very scary in full uniform! He even stopped by the house one time to *scare* my kids (when they were about 8 and 10 — he told them to never get into any trouble or he would have to deal with them!! Their eyes were as big as saucers!! The funny thing is, he truly has the heart of a pussycat. . . Rebecca

Well, I wasn’t going to put this into a negative thing but here’s the story. I went to the manager of the office and spoke to a bunch of the people who worked here until I finally got the two kids full names, parent’s name and their address. The police spoke to one of the kids that day about the vandelism to my husband’s car that he saw and I mean he actually caught them. Because they are minors in the state of Fl you can’t touch them even to detain them or battery charges can be pressed. The cop talked to this one parent of 5 kids, and she said that her son was restricted for bad behavior in school and wasn’t even on the property that day. Because it is a misdeanor for some reason that I don’t understand, we couldn’t press charges. When we found out the other boy who helped with the car and tried to break in the following a day, a called the police again and, are you ready for this?, I can’t press charges because I saw him approaching a front window but not that back one where he pulled the screen free, window was locked. The police have all the info, and apparently this little group has been up to a lot of "just misdeanors" 11 years old, including a police car, but for reasons I don’t understand, nothing has been down other than these kids are not to come near us at all. Sad but true! And of course all the parents said their kid wouldn’t do it. Then one had the manager call to set up an appoligy and never showed. We tried is all I can say! Depressing isn’t it? Well the good news is my investigation skills are getting better. I have the full names and address of each of the kids. The mother of the one who vandalized my husbands car (not badly) and tryied to get into my home through a locked window when he knew I was here is supposed to come with his mother to appologize. He is 11 years old. I don’t want to press charges if the parent will take responsibility to teach right from wrong. To me this is the right move but I have to see the boys face when he says he is sorry to see if it is real or just to appease his mother. I’ll let you know, but I do feel a whole lot better now that both families were notified and warned to keep their kids away from where I am. The police were also updated as to who they are and where they live. So will see. I really hope it ends with a happy story. UM MOM Susan

Susan, That’s HORRIBLE!! You never know what someone will do if they are up to doing something like this! Just be careful!!! It’s such a violation when you car gets broken into. I’ve had it done before and it’s a horrible feeling. I hope they catch the little creep. Shouldn’t he be in school? It shouldn’t be too hard to find a 12 year old on a weekday! Try to de-stress. (yeah right, we all know how easy that is!!!)

How’s this for stress? Yesterday for the third time my husband’s Passat gets vandalized but this time he sees them. No older than 12. Today, I see the same kid going to one of my front br windows and crack the curtain so he can see me and me him. He took off or so I thought. I decided to check the window on the side to find that he tried to remove my screen. Cops are coming to document this. How’s this for stress? Thank goodness even without the screen the window is always locked. I hope I don’t need to start locking myself in completely during the day. Well thought I would share.
