I am a single dad and have an older model of baby monitor .. the verrry older model of Fisher Price monitor .. question .. how FAR do you want to go with it?? i found that in NORMAL distances, like the other room, all is fine, but man, i would not want to go "that" far away from my baby girls when they wer sleeping anywways …. ok, maybe i am over attentive … and call me old fashioned, but i liked to be close to my girls when they slept .. i’d postpone futher away duties for when they could go WITH me ‘ just a comment, not meant as a flame peace jerry http://www.net-quest.com/~djerbear (come visit us (my girls and me) on our WWW page!) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->any opinions from users would be very helpful.  You may use my email or >if you think it is important general info post to this board…. >thanks, >balding in Toys R Us

After having a baby monitor for 4 years in my daughter’s room, if I were to do it over, I would look for one that was two-way-if they make them.   I can’t count the number of times I was sleeping in our bedroom and my husband was in our daughter’s room and he asked me a question over the monitor and I had to get out of bed to answer (and vice versa) It would have been great just to be able to answer him over the monitor. Plus, on the occasions my daughter cried out or called for us during the night,it would have been nice to be able to immediately tell her I was on the way to her room. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >First time dad pulls hair out at the plethora of choices!!

First, if possible, determine which models your neighbors are using.  Unless you want to hear their crying babies and occasional conversations (and vice versa), buy a different brand.  This will minimize, but not eliminate cross-talk.  Our neighbors have a Fisher-Price model, while we have a Gerry model, and we can sometimes hear activity at their house.  We looked closely at Gerry, Fisher-Price, and First Alert (?).  My first choice was Gerry, followed by Fisher-Price.  Gerry had the least amount of static, a pleasant overall design, and allows you to plug in both the receiver and transmitter thus saving on batteries.  Good luck.

I have tried a couple of monitors in the 7 month since my baby was born. I don’t recomed the first years monitor.  There was quit a bit of static. I am very happy with the Safety First.  The one I have has a compact parents unit that is rechargable and the unit for the baby’s room has a room thermometer so I know if his room is getting too hot, especially good in the summer.  It was not their most expensive modle but I like it alot. It is very sensitive-I can even hear him breathing through it.  It also has vety good range.  Hope this helps.
