A speech therapist told me that Barney is one of the few shows with child modeled speech, another being Mr. Rogers, and it was great for helping kids with their speech and language skills. Most kids shows have adult modeled speech which don’t help as much. My son was into Pooh, never Barney and loves Blues Clues. He’s learned alot from Steve.

I have to agree, I think both offer their own positive influences. My 8 yo loved Barney when he was 2 -3 years old. My 3 yo was only into Barney for a short time, but really loves Blue. Even my 8 yo will sit watch, and answer questions on Blue from time to time
We love Blue, too! How can Barney even really be considered educational? I think he’s more though. Melissa

I don’t even think you can compare them as far as being "educational". Blue’s clues, hands down!!!!!!! Blue’s Clues has a lot more educational material on it’s show. Barney is more a ‘fun’ show, and also is aimed at a little older group of kids rather than pre-schoolers. Angel here It depends on what you are teaching. Blue’s Clues is great for deductive reasoning, pattern recognition and that sort of thing. Barney, on the other hand, teaches some foreign language (the Spanish songs come to mind) and culture, folktales some counting, and lots of basic children’s songs. (I wish we got Kids Songs in our market). I find them equally grating, but my son prefers Blue. Angel, who though Blue was a boy for the longest time

My 3 year old son likes Blue’s Clues but finds Barney dull. Which is fine with me as I find BC less annoying (those child "actors" on Barney are appallingly phony). Blue is definitely more educational, but that’s not a big criterion around here for TV choices! It’s easier to educate the kiddies through dinner table conversation.
Response:
My son prefers Barney to Blues Clues, although he watches them both. He is only 21 months old though, and loves singing and songs. Blues Clues is set up for Pre-Schoolers, whereas Barney is great for any kid who enjoys singing. Right now, I think Barney is better for my son, simply because he is so young. And Barney teaches please, thank you, buckle your seatbelt, learn good manners, and so on. Things every child should know. Myself, I have no preference. It is what my son prefers right now. As long as it is not Teletubbies. They are the most annoying "things" on tv. Worse than the overly-cheery children on Barney. always welcome.

I recently insulted a friend (don’t ask why she was insulted) when we had a disagreement about which was more educational: blues clues or barney? I personally see a lot more potential in blues clues than in barney. Does anyone have any thoughts on these? Teresa
