Maybe you ought to take your own advice, David. It looks like you have a problem here. I certainly am beginning to see that many people have become very emotional over this issue. Are they desparately in denial? The circumcised pro-circumcision males with a religious bias often have an intensity that cannot be matched by others in the discussion. But as much as they insist on their "rights", I don’t think you’ll find the right to butcher your baby’s genitals in the constitution. In fact there are currently laws in the US forbidding the mere symbolic nick of a minor female’s clitoris. It has become offensive to most people’s sensibilities to permit such intrusion into a minors genitalia, even though the perpetrators claim a cultural tradition for the practice. Many people are starting to ask themselves why male children’s privates are not similarly protected against such intrusions. The fact that it is being argued that it has become a " US cultural tradition" to mutilate a male infant’s penis, is starting to wake people up when they realize that what they once believed were "health and hygiene" reasons" for the practice were in reality excuses now being exposed as myths unsupportable by any substantive scientific backing. The AAP now makes it clearer: >Routine circumsision of males is medically unnecessary.
Certainly Chrisitians and non-religious Jews who realize that there are in fact sexual and health negatives to amputating a normal part of the male anatomy are finding it offensive that certain religious and financial interests are attempting to impose a cultural tradition of of a routine genital mutilation of the male penis on American society. Many people need to educate themselves on the facts about infant circumcision and the functions lost by the amputation of that part of the body.
