Now, I do not intend to negate the significance of any child dying, but the sad fact is that many children die each year from drug reactions of all sorts. A co-worker of mine nearly lost her child recently because she had given the baby children’s Motrin for a fever. Who would have thought that an over the counter drug highly touted by health care professionals could cause burn blisters over 80% of a baby’s body and liver damage? It happens.However, it does not mean we should stop giving children medications of any sort because they "might" have a reaction. The wonderful advances in medicene make it possibe for many of us to live longer and healthier lives. For me, I’d MUCH rather take the tiny risk that my child will have an adverse reaction to a shot than take the much greater risk that he will contract polio or smallpox or tetnus. Many, many things in parenting is a gamble….this is one gamble in which the child would almost always be on the losing end if he is not protected from disease. I still have to agree with an earlier response to your original post regarding the right not to vaccinate.
