Question:
Our whole family has been invited to my daughter’s boyfriend’s court of honor where he is receiving his Eagle Scout award. The court of honor is followed by a buffet supper. Does one normally give the Eagle Scout a gift to mark the occaision of his achievement, and if so, what? Thanks, Tish

Tish, I was a Boy Scout, oh so many years ago. At that time, anyway, it was typical for attendees of the court of honor to give gifts to Eagle scout recipients. I recall that, when I received my Eagle award, my favorite and most-used gift was a small pocket knife engraved with my name and the date I received the award. I don’t recall who gave it to me now (that was, mmm, 19 years ago!), but I used that little knife for years — in fact, I lost it only about two years ago; I believe I left it in the pocket of a rented tux after a friends wedding! It wasn’t an expensive knife, but it stood out from the half-dozen pen/pencil sets, paperweights, etc. Happy shopping! Mark Peterson Ames, IA

Yes. Pocket Knives are great gifts. I got a Swiss Army knife for high school graduation and it was my favorite gift. It is lost now though…..boo hoo. -Suzi in Chapel Hill – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I was a Boy Scout, oh so many years ago.
