Question:
Those finicky toddlers… 21 months is pretty old to still be eating ONLY baby food. My son will be two next week and he still eats some baby food fruit because it is the only fruit he will eat. He is strickly meat and bread, no fruits or vegtables. He also refuses to try new things which is so frustrating because you know if they tried it they would like it. You might talk to your doctor and see what he suggests. Is he ever around other children? Some children will try food if they see other kids eating it. I suggest you just offer him adult food for a couple of meals and see if he doesn’t eventually try it. Maybe just offer adult foods for breakfast for a week and if he doesn’t eat it then tough till lunch. Also make sure he has several choices in when offering adult food. Don’t worry he won’t starve. The older he gets the harder it will be. Good Luck!

I may be facing the same type of problem eventually. My 1 yr old is just now eating first stage foods. She wouldn’t eat them before, and she doesn’t like the 2nd stage foods at all. She will occasionally eat what we have if its mac&cheese, or crackers, etc And she’s finiky on top of it. The only foods I’ve been able to get her to eat are applesause, oatmeal & rice cereals in the jar (2nd stage), and the organic baby foods with fruit in them. Sigh..at least she’s not loosing any weight..but gaining constantly. :*) If Life was a Highway, I’d be in a ditch Bright Blessings Brenda Smeby ICQ#4128184

I have a toddler that is 21 months old this month. Ever since we started feeding him baby foods, he has been great. BUT, the problem is, he still wants to eat baby foods. He refuses to eat anything else but baby foods. We have tried to give him crackers, banana slices, chopped carrots, Arrowroot cookies, Cheerios, and anything that is bite sized. He refuses to have anything to do with them. Even if there are lumps in his food, he will literally gag and at times has vomited it up! I have seen many toddlers his age and even younger enjoy adult foods to a point. We can’t even entice him to taste what we eat. Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I would like to hear from parents that are or went through the same thing. Lyn

Baby foods tend to be very bland and 1st and 2nd foods are pureed. If your toddler is not eating 3rd foods yet, try preparing his foods without seasonings, butter, or other additives. Also, you can use a chopper or food processor to puree his foods. Eventually, his tastes will change, they so often do throughout childhood.
