I’ve noticed that we need to ignore elaine on everything — all she knows how to do is put people down and act as if she knows it all.

Response:

What in earth is going on with all of you and Elaine? Let the woman speek for herself. She sees things from another point of view. Is this a crime? I really can not understand why this war is going on… Perl

Response:

Elaine’s remarks in this case were not to help the guy but to provoke him. She’s like a troll to me. Defend her all you want, but it will eventually slap you in your face. Mind you every blue moon she does come up with something worthwhile to say. Maybe I still hold a grudge from when I first appeared and she called me a "stupid slut" for being a young mother. Or maybe it’s her lack of compassion for others and her ability to stike out at those who come in asking for help. My advice to james is correct. IGNORE ELAINE! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >  What in earth is going on with all of you and Elaine? Let the woman > speek for herself. She sees things from another point of view. for herself. She >sees things from another point of view. Is this a crime? I really can not understand why this >war is going on… >Perl

Perl, Elaine’s views would not be a problem if she actually expressed them in ways intended to help people. First, of course, there is the fact that she has little real knowledge or experience of children – she is not a parent and seems to think that she knows something about parenting when her real knowledge is very slight. Second, she expresses her views in ways that come across as racist, bigoted and totally unfunny to most of us. Third, she puts down the people who are asking for help. Now I got her number by doing a dejanews search on her old posts and believe me, she is vicious in every ng she frequents, so I killfiled her a while ago. Let her out for a while, simply to warn some others who might take her seriously that she has no worthwhile advice to give really.  She doesn’t seem to want to give advice anyway, but to put down those who ask for it. My advice is to ignore her posts – either delete them without reading or killfile her addy.  If we stop feeding her, she will disappear back under her bridge. Josie and a few others in particular – if you want her to go away, ignore her. She will get tired of the game if we do. Dorothy

Response:

Ok by my. I have no problem with that. I have read only a few of her posts and I couldn’t understand what was going on. Now that you have somehow explained to me, I have no problem ignoring her. Perl

Response:

Do you think there is actually something going on…or is it just difficult for your son to adjust?  I would investigate further. I think the children should be able to express to you how they are feeling.  I would be happy knowing that your son felt confident enough to express his feelings with you.  I would continue to encourage that.  It is better for him to talk about it than keep it bottled up inside.  Does he feeel like his mother is taken away from him, if she has a new man, he probably feels second in her life. Hard to handle. And I didn’t quite understand, when you said… >I really would like to have him with me….but am scared that this would >affect the rest of the most important things in my life.

What is more important than your children? You might try posting at single parent newsgroup.   I am not sure I gave you any useful advice.  I sympathize with your dilemma.  I hope that you all can work out this difference. zipper – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Hi I am a divorced father of four beautiful young children (12,9,8,& 4) who live with there mother 240 km away. My ex has recently moved in with a younger man (10 years diff) and there is many problems that are coming to the surface with this relationship  and our children.  My oldest son does not want to live there any more. And is starting to have communication problems with his mother. My concern is that I do not want to split up the children, but do not want my oldest developing an attitude that might be carried on into his adulthood. I really would like to have him with me….but am scared that this would affect the rest of the most important things in my life. I would like to find some suggestions with this as well as other problems that are coming forward. Is there a group of single parents in the same boat. James

My recommendations for starters are beagles, poodles, all the spaniels, shetland sheepdog, papillon. Carol Klippstein

Response:

Find out where there are dog show in your area and go to several.  Look at the dogs and talk to breeders.  Most will tell you the pros and cons.  The important thing is that you are willing to spend the time excercising your dog and taking him to obediance class.  (I went to a dog show 5 years ago to look at pugs and ended up adopting a rescued greyhound  which was more compatable with my lifestyle)  Puppies are a real handfull you might want to consider an older rescue.  Many times the breeders will tell you of a purebred rescue or an older dog in their kennel. Finally realize that at some point every dog will probably get sick on the floor,  have an accident.  dig in the yard or eat a shoe.  If your lifestyle can’t tolerate this think again. Read the rec.pets.dog. rescue   newsgroup.  There are many posting of wonderful dogs abandoned or given up through no fault of their own and they would make a wonderfull addition to your family. DO NOT buy a pup from a pet store.  Check with your breeder to determine if the parents have been checked for genetic diseases or conditions common to that particular breed. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->  1. Is she certain it’s psoriasis?  It’s not common to find it only on the heel (on one or both?). I would bet a bunch that it’s not psoriasis at all. Has she tried simple athlete’s foot medications like Lotrimin or Lamisil?  Or better yet, seen a dermatologist or a podiatrist?  If you let any of these conditions go for years, you’re really best off getting a real medical look at it. On my Matchless DC30 schematics, I have some trouble with understanding how the master volume pot works. The pot is connected between the two inverted signals, that goes from the inverter tube to the output tubes. It’s connected in such a way that the pot either blockes the connection between the two inverted signals, or openes up, when turning it. How does this lower or raise the master volum of the amp? Tommy

Response:

Tommy, The master volume pot (the way you’ve described it, I don’t have a DC-30 schematic in front of me) either raises or lowers the amount of signal passed from the phase inverter tube to the output tubes. Turned all the way up it lets all of the signal strength through to the output, so what ever you have the amp’s volume set to it all gets output to the speakers.  Turn the pot down and it shorts some of the signal to ground and passes a lesser amount ot the signal to the output tubes.  Hence, less sound gets to the speakers, overall volume is lower independent of what the amp’s volume control is set on. This allows you to set the input volume, tone controls, etc. for the kind of sound (and pre-amp overdrive/distortion) you like and then independently regulate the total overall output volume. Handy, but…… Nothing sounds as good as a good amp played loud! Hi Tommy, this kind of MV works in a different way as a "normal" MV. The output of the PI has a phase shift of 180
