Question:
Has anyone ever had a problem with their husband being uncomfortable about bathing a child because he is uncomfortable in seeing and washing his childs private parts? My husband told me that when we have kids he would be very uncomfortable seeing/washing a kids "do-dads" 
My husband is a real sweetheart although a little shy and conservative. Has anyone been through this? I would never force this responsibility on him, but it bothers me to know that he has a problem with it. Is this something that makes MOST men uncomfortable?? And if so I wonder why men, and not women? Please reply to me by e-mail as I don’t read these newsgroups often. Thank you!

Laurie. . . I’m a dad who bathes both my dughter (well, she’s 7 now, so I don’t anymore!) and my 8-month-old son. I THOUGHT I would have problems, being a male, handling bathing my daughter. . . until I just went and did it. There was nothing odd or uncomfortable about bathing her, just like I had to clean her up after a diaper change. It’s just part of the job! I don’t pretend to know your husband’s fear or motivation, but maybe if he tried it he’s realize his fears are unfounded, just like they were for me. Just like other parental fears we find that are quite unfounded (not to forget the few million that do come to pass!). Good Luck with the Parenting thing. . . Greg Lubianetzky
