Off topic question about Earthlink and AOL

Question:

>anyone at > all in here know if it’s possible for an Earthlink’er to chat in some way >with > an AOL’er?

Only children chat on AOL.  But what has that to do with parenting, idiot. Take your stupid questions to AOL and Earthlink and stay on topic or get the hell out of this newsgroup. I’m sick of your constant need for attention.

Sorry, if you had read ALL of what I said……it was clear that she and I were not interested in chat lines. Just a way to chat live time *until* we got the AIM thing straightened out. You’re right of course…….it has little to do with parenting, but then neither do easily half the posts in here. >Take your stupid questions to AOL and Earthlink and stay on topic or >get the hell out of this newsgroup.

Oh dear God……I am quaking with fear at your words. I’ll do as I choose, thank you very much. >I’m sick of your constant need for attention.

Where you get this from, I have no idea…..since when is asking a question proof of needing attention constantly? Why are you so upset anyway? I put in the header that it was off topic. Why did you even read it if you don’t like anything off topic? Josie

Geez, how did *I* get attached to this bantor?  LOL.  I stated NONE of the below, yet I am still attached to it. AJPDLA

I posted SOMETHING along this thread, but I believe that what I DID post was edited out and only my "tagline" remained.  :) AJPDLA, a victim of bad editing.

Do we both need to download this? Is this AIM? Why would I need to download this if I already have AOL? I mean, I could see why she’d have to…..because she has Earthlink. This kind of stuff is so confusing to me. Actually, I did go already to the http://www.aol.com/aim that someone referred me to. I went through all the steps it told me to, downloaded it completely. Then it asked me if I wanted to install and run it now…….strongly advising me to close out any open programs I had on Windows first. Since I wasn’t exactly sure what *that* meant……and I was on-line doing this….like the idiot I am, I signed off first, thinking it’d still be there waiting for me. Natch……it was gone and now I have no damn idea what to do or how to find it or if I have to start all over and download it completely again. Seems like if I already downloaded it fully (which I know I did)…….then I ought to be able somehow to just pick up where I left off, but I can’t even find the stupid thing. Sigh. You might see if she can download the AOL IM.  I had that for a while.  It got blasted off the last time we had a crash and had to reformat (3 times!!!)  And I haven’t tried to down load it again.  But I don’t have AOL and it worked just fine for me.  There is a thing on there that you can invite someone to join it isn’t there?  Send her an email through that and see if she can down load it. Hope it works out for you!! Sharon

Thanks, Sharon. We’re still trying mightily to figure it out……the problem is that we’re both computer idiots. LOL. I still don’t understand though why she can’t go into any chat rooms at all. I hate chat lines, but I thought it’d be a way to at least chat live until we figured out the IM/ICQ thing. I really thought that anyone with any isp could go into any public chat room. Oh well. Thanks. Josie

Try Yahoo…I use their chat all the time with my out of state friends —

all in here know if it’s possible for an Earthlink’er to chat in some way with an AOL’er? A very close friend of mine just moved back home to Chicago and after just having gotten her computer set up with earthlink……she’s unsure how to do this. I have aol……so all I have is instant message……while I think (not sure and she doesn’t know) she has that ICQ thing. Are these two compatible in any way? I didn’t know what to tell her. After e-mailing back and forth trying to figure it out……I came up with the idea for her to just bring up digitalcity and we could go into a chat room that we’d both agreed upon first and talk real-time…….but even that didn’t work. She said she kept getting this pop-up that said she had to have aol. Now I AM confused, as I was under the impression that virtually anyone could go onto the chat lines, regardless of their isp. Are we doomed to e-mails forever, or is there any way at all we can chat real-time…….whether through some type of instant message thing or chat room? HELP! Josie
