Orange and other citrus before 1 yr?

Question:

I haven’t given it to my kids before a year because of all the acid. It is good for you, but not if it makes your little tummy ache!!!! Some baby companies dilute it in a kids form. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hi Everyone, > Is it ok to give citrus before a year? Orange juice is one the best >sources for Calcium and Vitamin C, but I was under the impression that >one would have to wait a year. Is this true? > Thanks! >Tammy >– >*** KidSize Web Pages and Parent Resources >*** Find parenting organizations in your area >*** http://www.kidsize.net

Also make sure that the juice is pasteurized!! Don’t want any "yuckies" in their tummies to make them sick!! :) Lisa Mom to Kelsey (3) — Visit my website… http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/9283/

I wouldn’t do it without speaking with your child’s physician first. I know ours said that apple and white grape juice are easiest to digest, and should be the first juices given. The acidity of citrus juices may be a problem for an infant.

I was told by my doctor that too much citric acid (like that in orange juice, as opposed to the little bit in jared foods) is not good for a baby. I belive she said no citric until Victoria was at least a year. I could be wrong, since she was 6 months at her last check up, and thetime has gne by…;-) — Paige GO LEAFS!!! proud to be Outlandish "when the guy who invented the drawing board got it wrong, what did he go back to?"

In my opinion oranges are just to acidic for under a year. I gave Kelsey orange juice; but it was really watered down. For under a year most of their calcium is coming from formula or breast milk anyways. After they’re over a year and off formula or if you’re not BFing after a year then it would be ok to introduce them. There are lots of other things that are less acidic and are full of calcium or vitamin c. Hi there we were told not to give our twins oranges until they were 12/18 months due to my partner being allergic to them and it might have been passed down to the kids! But I wouldn’t have given them oranges before a year anyway – I find them to zesty for babies! I dont think all that acid could be good for a young child!
