PARENTING STATISTICS – with actual posted statistics

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Children Born Out of Wedlock ( of all births ) >  1940       1950       1960       1970       1980   >  3.4 %      3.9 %      5.3 %      10.7 %     18.4 % >  1990        1991        1992       1993       1994   >  28.0 %     29.5 %     30.1 %     31.0 %     32.6 % >  Birth rate for teen-agers  ( 15-19 per 1,000 ) >                 1980         1995             >Blacks        97.8         95.5 >Whites        45.5         50.3 >All races     53.0         56.9

the stats are not good.  many of these can be found at the official place for stats at http://www.census.gov for the us.  being a black man who would like to get married and then start a family, the stats are pretty much stacked against me.  the most staggering stat i’ve seen is that of the children born to black mothers in 1994, 66% were out of wedlock.  compare this to japan’s rate of 1%.  there seems to be no love between the parents. and the projections for 1996 are around 70% for blacks.  i don’t know what has happened to our country, but things need to change.  i’m very supportive of single parents and those who are trying.  a good many of them were married to the children’s father(s) at one point or another.  but, people need to make better choices about family.  family comes first.  and a family should be planned and not made with someone who you do not care about. — brian odom
