I think that there are some incredibly valuable interactions and peices of wisdom shared in newsgroups.  It is great to have a place to ask for input and insight into the many parenting challenges that we all endure.  I do advise that if your child has any illness, discoloration, pain or ANY wierd thing going on in or on their body…take them for medical treatment…whether it is to a doctor, emergency room, naturopathic physician or health clinic.  No one here can see your child, know his pain, or diagnose over a computer.   Perhaps there is nothing major, but several times I have seen posts about medical conditions that sounded like the child should have been in an emergency ward rather than the parent posting on a newsgroup. Well…I sure hope that your daughter is okay but my two cents is to take her in to a professional to be looked at.  I wish you luck! Regards, Debra

Ask Dr. about foot and mouth disease, K had it, like that, but not in the mouth (go figure). F + M is contagious which is why a visit to uncle Doc is needed. Plus if you get it, it can be very unpleasant for adults. Response:

YES! It sounds familiar. I get them regularly. My doctor doesn’t have a clue as to what they are but gave me a cortizone cream that seems to make them go away faster. We think it may be a fungal infection of some sort as it is recurring. It may also migrate to different fingers. They do go away with time. If anyone knows for sure what it is, I would love to know. purple round spots on the fingertips (pads, not ends) of the index, middle, and ring fingers on both hands. She says they hurt when touched or when she uses her fingers but are not painful when she’s not using them. The spots are perfectly round and exactly in the center of the fingertip, so it doesn’t look like it’s something she touched (and she’d have used her thumb to pick up anything e.g. plants etc.) The spots appear shiny and look as if they may turn into blisters soon.

Hello all, My 8 yr old daughter has come down with a peculiar symptom: She has reddish purple round spots on the fingertips (pads, not ends) of the index, middle, and ring fingers on both hands. The spots are perfectly round and exactly in the center of the fingertip, so it doesn’t look like it’s something she touched (and she’d have used her thumb to pick up anything e.g. plants etc.) The spots appear shiny and look as if they may turn into blisters soon. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any suggestions! Dorie
