possessive springer-10 mo. old

Question:

Seek a trainer/behaviorist NOW! The behavior will not get any better on its own, and this is a disaster waiting to happen. Please please seek help. You can find trainers in the Yellow Pages under Dogs, or ask your vet. My teen sister had a CH springer she handled for years which severely mauled her hand in a kennel fight situation. Turns out the dog had been displaying "possessive" tendencies for some time and they didn’t recognize or ignored them. Best of luck. Response:

Our 9 mo. old springer has become very possessive of me, and has not been kind to my son or husband. Mudge is at home with me all day, and I am the primary care-taker. Is this a phase he will outgrow? If I pet other dogs, he comes and gets between us; same behavior with family members. Also, it seems the separation anxiety phase is back in full bloom. He got over it for awhile, and now it’s back. He starts barking and howling if I get out of sight.  Any comments would be helpful. julia
