reflecting on the joy of parenting

Question:

What a sweet daddy! I worry about being grumpy too, but my daughter (6) usually tells me when I am being crabby. :) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hi >this is my first post here >I decided that I wanted to share the shear joy that I enjoyed this afternoon >as my 3 year old son enjoyed jelly that we had made together…. >He and my girl (4) love music and are happy little people…. >at 45, I find this to be a totally rejuvenating experience (tiring too) >I worry about being a grumpy old bastard >L >Mark

Response:

I ‘ll join the club. I am 41 and DH is 37. Sometimes I think it’s better if you make your children when you are younger. My DD is 4y and my DS is Perl

Response:

I don’t know how much age has to do with it.  I’m 27 and my husband is 25. We were in bed at 9 pm last night – right after the kids went!  Lol. Sometimes it’s just plain, old exhausting. But you are right, it’s so cool watching their faces light up when they see something "new" that you don’t even notice anymore.  I never noticed how many "puppies" and "kitties" there were around.  Lol. Later, Sophie mom to Charlotte (20 months) and Patrick (3 months)

Response:

Give me my membership card too!  I’m 40 and DH is 41.  My DS is 7 and my DD is almost 3.  I do sometimes envy those who are much younger and are therefor almost grandparents at my age, but then I think of how I was in my early twenties and I know I wouldn’t have made a very good parent at that time.  I think I appreciate the little things more, even if I am more exhausted at the end of the day. Hey, welcome here, Mark.  Great to see such a positive first post.  Don’t worry about grumpiness, if you can keep your perspective being around kids keeps us young. My kids are grown up, but I teach 4 year olds and they are the best thing going in terms of having fun and viewing the world anew.  They grow up fast, so enjoy them now. I’m 29 and my DH is 40, we have 2 kiddies (28 months and 13 months).  I am the crabby one and my DH has more patience and tolerance as he’s got older. I think older parents are great. Jaquie

Boy, you made me feel a whole lot better!  I must add, however, that a full day of work is much less exhausting than a full day with my darling 4.5 year old son!  [But much more rewarding...] – Aula [signing in at 43] – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I don’t know how much age has to do with it.  I’m 27 and my husband is 25. > We were in bed at 9 pm last night – right after the kids went!  Lol. > Sometimes it’s just plain, old exhausting. > But you are right, it’s so cool watching their faces light up when they see > something "new" that you don’t even notice anymore.  I never noticed how > many "puppies" and "kitties" there were around.  Lol. > Later, Sophie > mom to Charlotte (20 months) and Patrick (3 months)

You are both so right, being a parent is just about the most wonderful thing in the world.  You find yourselves getting excited about all sorts of things which you had forgotton were exciting, like Christmas, holidays etc.  Also my eldest son started cub scouts last Autumn and when I go to pick him up I can’t wait to hear about the things he has done, last week he led the Grand Howl ceremony at the end of the meeting and he came bursting out to tell me, he was so proud.  Yes being a parent is everything. –  Jill – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Hey Mark! > Another older parent.  Cool!  I am 43, hubby is 44 and our wonderful son is > 4.5 [oh no, we are not biased  :-)]  Being a parent is the most wonderful, > rewarding, exhausting, challenging job either one of us has ever undertaken. > We love it.  Oh, and yes, I *know* I don’t have any more energy for any more > children.  Nope.  Some evenings we’re lucky if we just make it to bed > time…..But, I discipline myself and off we go again, playing with our > Thomas trains, playdough and other fun stuff.  I even hang out in the tree > house with the short person when he asks [which is often]. > Enjoy parenthood – Aula > Hi > this is my first post here > I decided that I wanted to share the shear joy that I enjoyed this > afternoon > as my 3 year old son enjoyed jelly that we had made together…. > He and my girl (4) love music and are happy little people…. > at 45, I find this to be a totally rejuvenating experience (tiring too) > I worry about being a grumpy old bastard > L > Mark

Hey Mark! Another older parent.  Cool!  I am 43, hubby is 44 and our wonderful son is 4.5 [oh no, we are not biased  :-)]  Being a parent is the most wonderful, rewarding, exhausting, challenging job either one of us has ever undertaken. We love it.  Oh, and yes, I *know* I don’t have any more energy for any more children.  Nope.  Some evenings we’re lucky if we just make it to bed time…..But, I discipline myself and off we go again, playing with our Thomas trains, playdough and other fun stuff.  I even hang out in the tree house with the short person when he asks [which is often].
