SCHOOL SHOOTINGS SOLUTION FEAR

Question:

>I think the solution is disipline.. Good old fashion disipline. Your parents >would have never done this! I would have never done this! Parents are afraid >of their kids afraid to tell them what to do afraid to make them do what >needs to be done. Kids know this and use it. Just my two cents! >Angie(Nick 11yrs, Sarhea 6yrs, & Kaitlynn(bugg)8mths)

I really agree.  I don’t want to get into the copular punishment debate again but discipline, the kind that modern doc’s say is ‘appropriate’,  is nothing.  Kids have no fear of consequences today.  None at all.  I really fear what kind of adults we are raising!

Response:

me again, I meant coporal, as in physical, as in spanking, not copular as in… well, whatever!!! *LOL* – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I think the solution is disipline.. Corporal punishment is actually associated with increased levels of anti-social behavior and violence, not with less of it. (For further discussion on this, go to alt.parenting.spanking.) You are right, though, that parents need to set limits and enforce them. There also need to be appropriate consequences for breaking rules and crossing limits.  But being hit is NEVER a logical consequence, even for hitting someone else.  Children need to be taught that force, violence, and coercion are not appropriate ways of dealing with problems. The children who were involved in the shootings were all troubled in one way or another, and had parents who had failed them at key moments in their lives.  Had those parents spanked them, it is doubtful that it would have made much difference.  In several cases, the boys in question HAD been subject to corporal punishment at home or at school.  In the case of one of the boys in Arkansas, he had actually been paddled at school the day before the shooting! I know lots of parents who set good examples, set and enforce limits, and discipline their kids, all without spanking.  Let’s not get into offering simplistic solutions to complex problems. Bill

well the reason that kids are doing these things in my opinion is that ther is no fear for the consequences of their actions .i am glad that we live in a free country however we are way to slack on crimes .so they say he will be tried as an adult so what this will not install fear in other children who might do this and here is my suggestion .live executions ,thats right we pute them on national television directly after the trial strap there arms and legs down bring in the executioner with the surgical steel blade and start chopping one arm off then the next arm then leg and then other leg and with a final swing chop off the head ,then mayby fear will be installed .rick denny

If you think that the type of mentality that produces a crime like this is going to be a type that will weigh the pros and cons of their actions before doing it (hmmm, maybe I’d better not do this or I’ll be executed) you’re as delusional as they are.  While my rage at this boy would like to see him drawn and quartered, I know that’s not going to stop the next person who’s hell-bent on shooting up a public place. > well the reason that kids are doing these things in my opinion is that > ther is no fear for the consequences of their actions .i am glad that we > live in a free country however we are way to slack on crimes .so they > say he will be tried as an adult so what this will not install fear in > other children who might do this and here is my suggestion .live > executions ,thats right we pute them on national television directly > after the trial strap there arms and legs down bring in the executioner > with the surgical steel blade and start chopping one arm off then the > next arm then leg and then other leg and with a final swing chop off the > head ,then mayby fear will be installed .rick denny
