Suggestion about Mother Hickey

Apparently this person works in some capacity (quite possibly the sysop) at crl.labs and uses thier ‘net connexion for entertainment. Response:

You’re not paying attention to my posts.         Our church has been active in San Francisco since 1982.  It is perfectly legitimate.  I see nothing wrong in asking for donations to a church whose members are trying to help young people.  If you don’t want to give, just don’t.  You’re under no obligation.  You may prefer to give to other charities and worthwhile causes.  We simply want you to consider Mother Hickey Ministries the next time you feel generous.         I don’t know why you’re so opposed to our preaching.  I think the devil is in control of this newsgroup and Mother Hickey may have to perform an exorcism.         Max may have been an atheist — I don’t know.  But people do get religion every day, especially when they’re exposed to Mother Hickey’s preaching.           No one can give me straight answers here.  I might as well preach to a flock of crows! "sysop" == system/computer operator "crl.labs" == the place from which the mother hickey, etc, trolls appear to emanate. Erikc (alt.atheist #002) | "An Fhirinne in aghaidh an tSaoil." Mother Hickey is in sunny but sinful California and may not be able to  I can assure you she is not joking, and that she is indeed a minister of the Gospel.  The proper name Jesus Christ should always be capitalized. "Mother Hickey" is no more a minister of christ than I am, and I am atheist. "Mother Hickey" is just one of a variety of aliases used by one very sick and sad troll. I’m just curious I quite sure that is some kind a fraud, unfortunately I live in a different country but some one in the SF area may want to report that this factious church is soliciting for donations. This is Max’s Real Info- Varazslo, Max H 24 Montezuma St San Francisco, CA, 94110-5109 Phone: (415) 648-0604 And this is where he asked the money to be sent to         Mother Hickey Ministries         P.O. Box 424326         San Francisco, CA 94142-4326 Just incase anyone wants to report him.

It was a dejanew search under his true name (under which he posted claiming to be "Mother Hickey") that showed him posting to the atheist ng’s.  I did a search after someone else mentioned it and found his style of posting to be almost exactly the same as his alter egos’. But do you think asking for donations could be something for his ISP to consider? Leslie

Just trolling isn’t enough to get your ISP yanked.  If this guy really truely felt the way he claims to then using an annonymous identity wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.  But this guy has been caught, we know who he really is and we know that he has claimed to be an atheist in the past.  So in light of that, what he is posting about now could be seen as harassing and abusive.   His last post went to far in asking for donations for a non-existant church. That is fraud.  He wasn’t even smart about it.   For months he’s claimed his church was in Dallas.  Then he asks  for donations to be sent to a San Francisco po box.   I just hope no one falls for that. Actually, I don’t recall him claiming to be an atheist.  He did troll alt.atheism quite frequently, but just claimed to be sympathetic to atheistic beliefs.  We all got extremely tired of him and soon learned that the best way to deal with him is just to ignore his messages altogether.  Eventually, he went away and hasn’t been seen on alt.atheism in quite a while.  I found alt.parenting.solutions only recently and was a bit disappointed to see that he’d moved on in his trolling. Same sh*t, different newsgroup!! Ignore him and he’ll disappear along with his pathetic ramblings. -Treelo – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> So in > light of that, what he is posting about now could be seen as harassing and > abusive. > His last post went to far in asking for donations for a non-existant church. > That is fraud.  He wasn’t even smart about it.   For months he’s claimed his > church was in Dallas.  Then he asks  for donations to be sent to a San > Francisco po box. > I just hope no one falls for that. > Kendra > http://www.geocities.com/heartland/lane/6516 > NEW!–> GRAPHICS BY KENDRA  web page sets. > www.geocities.com/heartland/lane/6516/graphics.htm

I have possibly the stupid question of the day about Mother Hickey/Max/whoever.  Apparently you long timers to this board have figured out exactly who is responsible for all this garbage.  Will his ISP do nothing?  I’ve heard it practically takes an act of congress for an ISP to kick someone out, but surely this is pretty well documented trolling?  And he does it on other groups as well?  Just wondering! Actually, it’s not that hard.  Do have have filters or killfile abilities in your newsreader?  I stuck him/her in mine within hours of first starting to read this NG.  When one of his/her threads came around in which everyone was replying, I put the whole thread in my filters. It was very easy.  It also saved me a lot of time when I didn’t have to wade through those posts! :-) Take Care! Vicki Surratt Proud Mom of Kathy (just turned 6) and Jenny (9)! :-)

well, actually, i didn’t mean  _me_  !
but as someone else commented already in this thread, there is always
someone new coming into this NG and the NG ‘world’ in general.  and
it feels good to take what you believe are clever comebacks to each troll
that comes along.  [ and that's what "i've been guilty" of in the past. ]
but after the user becomes a little ’seasoned’ it is a lot easier to realize that
the trolls are not looking for an honest conversation,  that the most clever
( and true ) rebuttal to them will not make the least bit difference to their
behavior.
so i have come to the realization that screaming at the NG,  any NG, to
‘just ignore them !’ does little good. everyone has to learn for themselves !
a lot like raising kids.

that will require a lot of discipline,  something that apparently is sadly lacking in this NG.  [ and yes, i've been guilty myself in the past ] > Let’s just all ignore him/her and he’ll/she’ll go on her merry way > hopefully.  I’m tired of having this and other newsgroups cluttered with > net-trash.  He/she is probably just collecting e-mail addresses for > spamming anyway. > Just a suggestion…..

Just a suggestion that I think might make this world-class troll go away.  Why don’t we all just ignore her/him.  Don’t even respond if he/she writes intentionally inflammatory messages.  Don’t respond if he/she picks on you by name. Let’s just all ignore him/her and he’ll/she’ll go on her merry way hopefully.  I’m tired of having this and other newsgroups cluttered with net-trash.  He/she is probably just collecting e-mail addresses for spamming anyway. Just a suggestion….. -Treelo

Response:

Better yet, don’t even bother to read his/her messages.  Unfortunately, new people will always come to the group and easily get reeled in.
