Other countries tend to use trawlers or submarines. Do you really think intelligence-gathering isn’t engaged in by every significant government on the planet? — bostnbob

Be careful; their definition of spying might be a bit looser than yours. — bostnbob

Such as??? What specific spying there would not be considered spying here? I want to hear about your expertise on this subject, perhaps I missed something in my other journeys to China.

It’s rather ironic for someone crusading for human rights and freedoms as much as you do, that both ‘ATL’ and ‘SVO’ are cities that have historically been associated with oppression (the American South during the era of slavery and before the advent of civil rights, and the Soviet Union during the Communist era)

Maryanne has always been a bit confused on the relationships of disparate societies, but it makes for interesting debates

Hostage?? It’s a military plane with a military crew that was monitoring electronic communications in China. As much as I think they should come back, I hardly equate this with the term "hostages" When I visit China, I have no fear of being taken "hostage" as I don’t plane on spying. The plane was 70 miles off the Chinese coast :O

Do they get more FF miles for connecting in Hainan?

My, you ARE naive about the nature of the Chinese government. — bostnbob
Response:
Why do you say that? Is someone being held hostage at the moment? As far as i can tell, you are making this remark due to the USA spy plane that had to land in Hanian. But to my interpretation of the incident there aren’t any hostages there. "Hostage: person who is illegally held prisoner until certain demands are met by other people." Well, i guess it could be said there are some demands, but they aren’t being held illegally. It could also be argued that they aren’t being held until certain demands are met by other people, more they are being questioned due to the incident/s they were involved in. Jamie

Don’t bother arguing with her, she’s a right-fringe, fur-wearing, luggage- searching, webtv loon. Wait until some other country’s planes start flying up and down 12 miles off the US coast listening to our cell-phone calls. Miss Arizona Highways will be demonstrating in the streets, wearing her best fur coat and drinking out of a bottle of Russian vodka she has declared and paid duty on, demanding that the planes be shot down and the crews sent to the electric chair without trial. How true! And considering that Maryanne is resident of Atlanta (not exactly my idea of a sanctuary from crime), it seems to be pretty odd warning. >…Free the Hainan 24! >…Re-animate the Hainan 1! >Your Turn

Russian ships routinely sit 6 miles off the coast of Virginia monitoring electromagnetic emmissions from our nation’s capital. Russian aircraft routinely fly along the west coast, monitoring EMF signals from within US territory. It is an accepted practice among all intelligence gathering nations (USA, Russia, France, The UK, Canada, China, and even Jamaica). Some gather the information for personal use, some gather it to sell. But not until recently did countries send kamikazee pilots up to stop it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Don’t bother arguing with her, she’s a right-fringe, fur-wearing, luggage- >searching, webtv loon. >Wait until some other country’s planes start flying up and down 12 miles >off the US coast listening to our cell-phone calls. Soviet "Bears" used to do it all the time. Refuel in Havana and turn around and go home. There are some good pictures of the Bears being "escorted" by USAF fighters as they made thier transits along the coast.
